SPIEZ LABORATORY: Successful completion of a UN mission
In September 2007, following a request from the UN, the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP) sent a member of the SPIEZ LABORATORY team to UN headquarters in New York. Stefan Mogl, Head of the Chemistry Division of the SPIEZ LABORATORY headed a panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of suspicious material in the offices of UNMOVIC in August 2007. It concluded that the substances were in fact harmless. In its report submitted to the UN Secretary-General, the panel set out a series of recommendations aimed at improving operational and safety procedures. The UN thanked both the FOCP and the SPIEZ LABORATORY for their valuable work.
