Accredited laboratories
Accreditation is the formal recognition of the technical expertise of a laboratory or centre to perform a service attributed to the given accredited field of activity. Technical expertise is the key to transparency, trust and comparability. Accreditation can therefore be considered as a confidence-building measure which enables the authorities, industry and society in general to judge whether testing, calibration, inspection and certification laboratories or centres can be relied upon to perform the given tasks competently and correctly. In Switzerland, accreditation according to the series of norms ISO/IEC 17000 and EN 45000 is granted by the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS), part of the Federal Office for Metrology and Accreditation (metas). The SPIEZ LABORATORY currently has eight SAS-accredited laboratories and calibration centres.
